The Christy Miller Series holds a special place in my heart because it was the first Christian storybook I ever read. I was 13, completely unaware of how much a book could shape my perspective, and this series did exactly that. Robin Jones Gunn’s writing always feels like spring to me—fresh, hopeful, and full of new beginnings.
The series follows Christy Miller, a sweet, sometimes awkward, but always sincere teenage girl navigating friendships, faith, and first love. From her sun-kissed summer in California to the ups and downs of high school, college, and beyond, Christy’s journey felt so real. She wasn’t perfect, and that’s what made her relatable. She struggled with self-doubt, learned tough lessons about love and friendships, and slowly discovered what it means to trust God in every season of life.
Watching Christy grow from an insecure 14-year-old to a confident young woman was inspiring. She starts out unsure of herself, wanting to fit in and be liked, but as the series progresses, she learns to stand firm in her values, make tough choices, and embrace the person God created her to be. It was such a journey of self-discovery, and I remember rooting for her every step of the way.
One thing I love about this series is how naturally faith is woven into the story. It wasn’t preachy or perfect; it was messy, honest, and full of grace. Christy didn’t have it all figured out, and that made her faith journey even more relatable. She struggled with doubts, made mistakes, and sometimes questioned God’s plan—but through it all, she learned what it meant to truly trust Him.
And then there’s Todd. Oh, Todd. The patient, guitar-playing surfer who made every teenage girl (including me) rethink their dream guy. He wasn’t just the cute love interest—he was steady, wise beyond his years, and genuinely cared about Christy’s faith as much as her heart. Their slow-burn, God-centered love story was both heartwarming and frustrating in the best way—sometimes you just wanted to shake them and say, Just talk to each other already! But their journey made the moments of understanding and commitment even sweeter.
The friendships in this series were just as important as the romance. Christy, Katie, and Sierra’s bond felt so real—sometimes messy and complicated, but always worth it. They had misunderstandings, hurt each other, and grew apart at times, but they also laughed together, encouraged one another, and built the kind of friendships that last a lifetime. It reminded me of my own friendships growing up, where you’re figuring out life together, one mistake at a time.
Even years later, flipping through these books feels like revisiting an old friend. There’s a kind of nostalgia attached to them—a reminder of simpler times, of first crushes, late-night heart-to-hearts, and learning that life doesn’t always go as planned, but God’s plans are always better.
If you’ve never read Christy Miller, you’re missing out on one of the most heartwarming coming-of-age series out there. It’s full of innocence, faith, and the kind of love story that doesn’t just make your heart flutter but also strengthens your soul. I read it at 13, and even now, I sometimes go back to it and always end up finding new treasures of wisdom. It’s the kind of series that grows with you, offering something new every time you read it.
